The Hotel Gallo Nero was built in the middle of the last century when the wild beauty of Elba attracted the first tourists and made an epochal change. The more adventurous reached the secluded beach of Sant’Andrea on the back of a mule in search of a special place, and sometimes they paused at the few residents to eat or sleep. Tonino’s and Rosa’s house began to be transforme.

It was little more than a room, the first inn built next to the basement. They served the wine produced by the family and the stew made by Mamma Rosa with products from the garden and the sea. Thanks to the growing popularity of the island and Sant’Andrea, the small restaurant was converted into a guesthouse in a few years and then into a hotel, which was handed over to the next generation in the 1970’s: Loriano with his wife and their children.

However, the Anselmi family sticks to the old values of the landscape and nature. Because of this, the fruit trees and some of the vineyards that still produce good wine have been preserved over the years.

The name of the hotel itself, chosen by the ancestors, seems to hint us at the original bucolic context, even if it is said that it was chosen because the crest of the rooster gave rise to the jagged cliffs of Sant’Andrea…
